NYU Summer Programs for High School Students
New York University offers more than ten programs in
the summer for students whoa re currently in high school.

NYU Precollege
June 27 to August 5, 2005
A six-week, nonresidential program for students who
will enter their junior or senior year of high school
in fall 2005. Students earn up to 8 college credits
and experience academic life at NYU. Courses are offered
in more than 40 areas, including art, biology, creative
writing, journalism, nursing, and psychology, through
the College of Arts and Science and the Steinhardt School
of Education. Students may also enroll in a noncredit
writing course. Housing is not available - this program
is for commuter students only.

The Tisch School of the Arts
Animation, Drama, Filmmaking, Musical Theatre,
and Photography
July 11-August 5, 2005
The residential program in New York offers programs
in acting, animation, dramatic writing, musical theatre
writing, musical theatre performance, narrative filmmakers
workshop, and photography. The program in Dublin, Tisch
offers acting and filmmaking, and in Paris, acting.

Tisch Dance Summer Residency Festival
June 6-24, 2005
The Department of Dance offers an intensive three-week
workshop to serve the intermediate to advanced dance
student who is preparing to enter the profession. Students
study with three professional New York companies.

Steinhardt Intensive Three-Week String Quartet
Workshop
This unique program is designed to enhance the experience
of advanced high school students (ages 15 and older)
and college undergraduates in the art of string quartet
playing. Participants will have the opportunity for
in-depth study through coaching and private lessons
with NYU's acclaimed music faculty, and master classes
in solo and quartet repertoire with distinguished guest
artists, culminating in weekly public concerts.
Steinhardt Summer Institute for Wind Quintet
and Woodwind Chamber Music
Through intensive preparation and performance, young
wind players will engage in study of select chamber
music ranging from trios to quintets. Master classes
with members of the Quintet of the Americas and guest
artists facilitate focus on solo and wind chamber music
technique. Open to high school and college students
ages 16 and up who play flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon,
or horn.
Steinhardt Intensive Harp Workshop NEW!
A five-day workshop and master class for high school
and college-level harpists.
Steinhardt Summer on Broadway: Music Theatre
Workshop
A unique opportunity to work with professional directors,
choreographers, and musical directors in a three-week
intensive. Pre-college and college-level participants
in this program study with an array of theatre professionals
experienced both in teaching and in practice. Talented
students from across the country study acting, dance,
and voice in a specially designed curriculum that leads
to a fully-staged "showcase" at the culmination
of the workshop.
Steinhardt: Looking for Shakespeare
Graduate student-teachers lead an ensemble of young
people ages 13 to 18, who will gather for three weeks
to create and perform an original adaptation of one
of Shakespeare plays. Performances take place at NYU's
historic Provincetown Playhouse.
Steinhardt: What Makes a Star? NEW!
Within the media world of image, hype, and lifestyle
lies the fascinating business of star-making. Spend
a week in New York City learning from professional star
makers in the music business. For high school students
ages 16 and up.
The School of Continuing
and Professional Studies Precollege Summer Camps
A wide variety of programs for high school and college
students are offered. These in-depth and fun learning
experiences run from one to six weeks, typically five
days a week. Topics include game design, fashion design,
digital music, filmmaking, money management, entrepreneurship,
cartooning and illustration, web design, and much more.
