The Engineering Summer Academy
The Engineering Summer Academy is a three-week program consisting of 72 hours of classroom and laboratory instruction (Mon. – Sat.). Students are expected to devote their study hours to the mental discipline of a concentrated academic experience. The academic experience includes problem solving and introduction to computer systems, including CADD, spreadsheets, and editors. The course, Engineering Graphics 166, includes methods of problem solving, algorithmic development, and introduction to three-dimensional orthographic and pictorial visualization and presentation. Application Process/Prerequisite: To be selected for this program, students must have completed their junior year in high school. Additionally, it is recommended that students rank in the top 10% of their class and show strength in mathematics as demonstrated by the PSAT.

This program consists of five different and intensive one-week courses offered at F.T. Stone Laboratory, Ohio State’s biological field state on Lake Erie. Located on Gibraltar Island in the harbor of Put-in-Bay, Ohio, Stone Lab offers the following courses: Introductory Acquatic Biology (Zoology 125), Introduction to the Study of Birds (Zoology 126), and Introduction to Flora (Plant Biology 294). Students will receive three college credit hours for each course taken. Each one-week course meets daily from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. and may also meet in the evenings. By combining laboratory, lectures, and field experiences on research boats and in a variety of habitats around the Lake Erie islands, the program emphasizes a hands-on approach to learning.
