Simon's Rock College of Bard Dual Degree Engineering Program

For students interested in engineering or applied science, Simon’s Rock College has dual degree agreements with Columbia University, Dartmouth College, and Washington University in St. Louis. Students in the combined B.A./B.S. program spend three years at Simon’s Rock, and two years at the affiliated engineering school. At the end of the five years, students who have satisfied the requirements of both institutions receive a B.A. from Simon’s Rock and a B.S. from the engineering school.

Engineering and applied science fields include applied math, applied physics, biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, civil engineering, computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, environmental engineering, industrial engineering, materials science, and mechanical engineering.

Simon’s Rock students apply for the program in their junior year (the sophomore year for the Dartmouth program). Provided they have taken the courses required by the engineering school, maintained a B average in both these courses as well as overall, and have the recommendation of the Simon’s Rock combined B.A./B.S. program faculty coordinator, students are normally granted admission to the engineering school. If these conditions are not met, admission is still possible.

While at Simon’s Rock, students must complete the requirements for the A.A. degree, complete a Simon’s Rock concentration, take a B.A. seminar, and complete the courses required for admission to the engineering school. The thesis can be done at the engineering school, under the joint supervision of engineering school and Simon’s Rock faculty.
