About New College of Florida

New College of Florida offers an innovative, rigorous approach to the liberal arts and sciences. Students choose courses through discussion with their faculty sponsors, create credited courses of study through individualized research projects and tutorials, and receive written narrative evaluations instead of grades. Located on the beautiful Gulf of Mexico in Sarasota, Florida, New College is the state public honors college for the liberal arts and sciences and is designed for independent and motivated students who are eager to take responsibility for their own education. Novo Collegians are a diverse group, with active alumni, including such notables as a Rhodes Scholar in physics, a Fields Medal winner in mathematics, the first chair of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, and a current member of the U.S. Congress.

Latin American/Caribbean Scholarship Program (LAC Award)

This scholarship program was instituted to help the state of Florida build relations with Latin America and the Caribbean.  With publicly funded scholarship assistance and temporary Florida residency, we can help students pursue a more affordable college education to the benefit of their home country or territory.

The Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid will consider this scholarship program for US Citizens and Permanent Resident Aliens who reside in Puerto Rico or the US Virgin Islands, and for international students from Latin America or the Caribbean, who seek an F-1 student visa to study at New College.

This special scholarship program replaces the typical scholarship programs for Out-of-State residents.

LAC Award:  The annual value of this renewable scholarship package is the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition—for 2009-2010, this was estimated at $21,602—plus an in-state scholarship.
